Key points
- Claude Duet targets professionals and small businesses and runs tasks on its own virtual machine.

- Research preview for Pro and Max users on iOS, Android and web, via a waitlist.
What happened: Anthropic has launched Claude Duet, an AI agent app that the company says is aimed at professionals and small businesses that want to automate and manage tasks. TechCrunch reported that it enters a crowded field that includes Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot and Fo.
The details: Duet can build a daily briefing, create dashboards and suggest actions based on a user's data. It can complete tasks in the background on its own virtual machine and return when it needs approval, and Anthropic says it offers recommendations proactively while monitoring ongoing work. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and can connect to more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace. Duet can make online purchases through Stripe's Link wallet or Shopify's Shop Pay, but payments require user approval, and it will not trade securities or move money between accounts. A new classifier checks each message to keep sensitive information from leaking, and by default the agent declines requests for credit card numbers and government identification.
Who it affects: Anthropic contrasts Duet with personal agents such as Instinct. The company says Duet is not good at errands or booking tickets and cannot show its browser use as it happens.
What to watch: Duet is available in research preview for Pro and Max customers on iOS, Android and the web through Claude.ai, and users must join a waitlist. Separate pricing for Duet was not reported.
Our take
Teams already on Claude Pro or Max can evaluate Duet for task automation, though its waitlist and preview status mean it is not yet ready for broad rollout.
