Honeyjar launches AI tools for PR and comms work with humans approving every send

Honeyjar, founded by communications veterans Michelle Masek and Nadia Jamshidi, uses AI to draft announcements, build media lists and find coverage opportunities. Its waitlist drew 10,000 signups in the first 24 hours. Nextdoor, Coco Robotics, Bloomberg Beta, Mission North and Full Picture are beta testers.
Key points
- Honeyjar drafts announcements, builds media lists and tracks coverage for comms teams.
- Customers must send or publish anything Honeyjar drafts themselves.
- The waitlist drew 10,000 signups in the first 24 hours.
What happened: Honeyjar, a startup building AI tools for public relations and communications, is presenting at TechCrunch Disrupt as part of the Startup Battlefield 200, TechCrunch reported. The company aims to bring senior PR expertise to founders and others who handle communications without a dedicated team.
The details: Honeyjar automates tasks such as writing announcements, finding journalists to pitch, building media lists, scanning news and social media, tracking coverage and identifying speaking opportunities. It can draft pitch emails and social posts in a customer's voice, but the customer must send or publish them. "We never want a world where the human is removed from the loop," CEO Michelle Masek said. The founders said the product may advise a founder that they are not ready for coverage yet. Through an initiative called the Comms Lab, they are training it on the judgment of other PR professionals.
Who it affects: Masek said there are "millions and millions of unassigned communicators," including marketers, investors, creators and school superintendents. She said the product is not meant to replace PR professionals and can help agencies and in-house teams take on more work. The waitlist received 10,000 signups in its first 24 hours, and beta testers include Nextdoor, Coco Robotics, Bloomberg Beta, Mission North and Full Picture.
What to watch: Masek previously led marketing and communications at Obvious Ventures, where she supported 110 portfolio companies. Honeyjar has not disclosed pricing, funding or a general availability date.
Our take
Marketing and comms teams evaluating AI assistants can look at Honeyjar as a tool that keeps a human approval step before anything is sent or published.
