Pick Gemini if your company already runs on Google Workspace and you want AI inside Gmail and Docs at the lowest added cost. Pick ChatGPT or Claude if you want a standalone assistant with a coding agent, agent mode and deep research in one seat. Between those two, prices are now identical, so the choice comes down to how each one handles your work in a two-week trial.

All three keep business data out of model training on their paid business plans. The real differences are packaging, where the assistant lives in your day, and what admin controls you need.

Key takeaways

  • ChatGPT Business and Claude Team cost the same. Standard seats are $20 per user per month billed annually, Premium seats $100, as of October 2026.
  • Both use mixed seat types. You can give heavy users Premium seats and everyone else Standard seats.
  • Gemini is cheapest if you already pay for Google Workspace. Business Standard at $14 per user per month on an annual plan includes Gemini across the Workspace apps.
  • None of the three trains on business plan data, according to each vendor.
  • Coding is bundled. ChatGPT Business includes Codex. Claude Team includes Claude Code.

What does each business plan include?

ChatGPT Business

ChatGPT Business needs at least 2 seats in total, mixing Standard and Premium seats. OpenAI's help center says both seat types include "access to ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex" plus GPTs, Projects, Apps, Company Knowledge, ChatGPT Agent and Deep Research.

Premium seats cost five times more and come with higher usage limits. OpenAI's Business page describes them as "5x more usage" with "no five-hour limit."

On data, OpenAI states: "OpenAI won't train on your workspace's data." Teams that need SCIM, role-based access controls or data residency are pointed to ChatGPT Enterprise, which is priced through sales.

Claude Team

Claude Team also needs at least 2 seats and tops out at 150. Above that, you move to Enterprise.

The Team plan includes single sign-on with domain capture and just-in-time provisioning, central admin and billing, role-based permissions, and connectors to Google Drive, Gmail, GitHub, Microsoft 365 and Slack. Every seat includes Claude Code, Cowork and enterprise search. Anthropic lists "no model training on content by default" for Team and Enterprise.

Usage is the main difference between seats. Anthropic says Standard seats get 1.25 times the Pro plan's per-session allowance and Premium seats get 6.25 times, with weekly limits per member.

Claude Enterprise starts at "$20/seat/month, billed annually," and Anthropic notes that "usage cost scales with model and task." It adds SCIM, audit logs, a compliance API, custom data retention, IP allowlisting and HIPAA-ready options. Context windows go "up to 1M," depending on the model.

Gemini through Google Workspace

For most companies, Gemini arrives as part of Google Workspace rather than as a separate subscription. On Business Standard, Plus and Enterprise, Gemini works across Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Vids, Drive, Meet and Chat. You also get the Gemini app, Gems (custom AI experts) and Gemini Notebook, which Google describes as a way to "turn your trusted business files into audio overviews and visual aids."

Business Starter is the exception. It includes limited Gemini, with Gemini in Gmail and Vids only.

Google's privacy line is clear: "Your company data is not used for AI model training or ads." For heavier use, Google sells an AI Expanded Access add-on with more automations, image and video generation and real-time speech translation.

Gemini Enterprise: the separate agent platform

Google also sells Gemini Enterprise through Google Cloud. It is aimed at agents and search across business systems, not at Workspace apps. The Business edition starts at $21 per seat per month for teams up to 300 seats, connects to Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, HubSpot and Jira, and includes a no-code Workflow Builder. The Standard and Plus editions start at $30 per seat per month and add enterprise compliance such as HIPAA and FedRAMP High. Both have a 30-day free trial.

Which one costs least for a 20-person team?

Take a 20-person team on annual billing, with 3 heavy users.

  • ChatGPT Business or Claude Team: 17 Standard seats at $20 plus 3 Premium seats at $100 comes to $640 per month. All Standard is $400 per month.
  • Gemini on Workspace Business Standard: 20 users at $14 is $280 per month, and that also covers email, storage and Meet. If you already pay for Workspace, Gemini adds no extra seat fee.

If your team already pays for Workspace and also wants ChatGPT or Claude, you pay for both. That can make sense, as long as you know which job each tool does.

Which is best for which kind of work?

Treat these as starting points for a trial, not verdicts. Model quality changes month to month.

  • Writing, documents and long files: Claude's context window goes up to 1M depending on the model, which helps when you work with long contracts, reports or codebases.
  • Broad everyday use across a company: ChatGPT Business puts ChatGPT Agent, Deep Research, custom GPTs and Codex in every seat.
  • Email, docs and meetings in Google apps: Gemini wins on convenience. It works where your team already writes.
  • Coding: both ChatGPT Business and Claude Team now bundle a coding agent. See our AI coding tools comparison.
  • Agents across business systems: compare ChatGPT Agent, Claude with connectors and Gemini Enterprise. Our build vs buy guide for AI agents helps you decide when an assistant is enough.

How to choose: a decision guide

Answer these in order. Stop at the first clear yes.

  1. Does your company run on Google Workspace, and do most people mainly need help with email and documents? Start with Gemini on Business Standard or above.
  2. Do you need SCIM, audit logs or data residency now? Talk to sales for ChatGPT Enterprise, Claude Enterprise or Gemini Enterprise Standard. Team-tier plans may not cover it.
  3. Do you want one standalone assistant that also covers coding? Trial ChatGPT Business and Claude Team side by side. Same price, so judge output quality on your own work.
  4. Do only a few people use AI heavily? Buy Standard seats for everyone and Premium seats only for those few.

Watch out for:

  • Usage limits on Standard seats. Both ChatGPT and Claude cap usage per period. Check limits with your heaviest users first.
  • Paying twice. If you have Gemini through Workspace and also buy ChatGPT or Claude, decide which tool owns which job.
  • Seat caps. Claude Team stops at 150 seats.
  • Shadow AI. If you do not pick a tool, people will use personal accounts, which may not have business data protections.

Bottom line

For most teams, the question is not which model is smartest. It is where the assistant should live and what you already pay for.

Google Workspace companies get the most value per dollar from Gemini. Teams that want a standalone assistant with a coding agent should trial ChatGPT Business and Claude Team for two weeks on real tasks, since the prices are now the same. Give five people from different teams the same three tasks in each tool, compare the results, and buy the one they keep opening.
