Pick Instantly if you want a cheap, simple way to send cold email from many inboxes with AI help on replies. Pick lemlist if your outbound mixes email with LinkedIn, calls and WhatsApp. Pick Smartlead if you run high volume or an agency and care most about mailbox rotation, a shared inbox and dedicated sending infrastructure.

Key takeaways

  • None of the three charges per email account. You pay for sending volume and contacts, so adding inboxes does not raise the bill.
  • Smartlead has the lowest entry price: $39 a month, or $32.50 a month billed yearly.
  • lemlist is the multichannel pick, with LinkedIn, SMS, calls and a WhatsApp add-on on its Multichannel plan.
  • Instantly bundles outreach, a lead database and AI agents, but its lead credits are a separate subscription.
  • Deliverability rules apply to everyone. Gmail's bulk sender requirements matter more than any feature list.

All prices below come from each vendor's pricing page and are as of October 2026.

What does Instantly offer?

Instantly sells more than a sender: outreach, a lead database, a CRM, website visitor tracking and AI agents. Its homepage says it is used by "50,000+ sales teams."

The Outreach plans are where most teams start, and all three include unlimited email accounts and unlimited warm-up:

  • Growth: $47 a month, or $37.60 a month billed yearly. 5,000 emails and 1,000 contacts a month.
  • Hypergrowth: $97 a month, or $77.60 billed yearly. 125,000 emails and 25,000 contacts.
  • Lightspeed: $358 a month, or $286.30 billed yearly. 500,000 emails, 100,000 contacts and the SISR system, which Instantly describes as dedicated or private servers with IP rotation.

Lead finding and AI tools run on separate credit plans, with the Growth credit plan listed from $37.60 a month for 1,500 to 2,000 credits. Instantly also sells bundles that combine both, starting at $85 a month for the Starter bundle. The Scale bundle adds the AI Reply Agent.

Watch out for the split between sending and credits. If you need both outreach and lead data, price the bundle against the two separate plans before you buy.

What does lemlist offer?

lemlist is built for multichannel prospecting. Its sequences can mix "email, LinkedIn, calls, WhatsApp, and SMS," and it includes a "650M+ Lead Database," its lemwarm warm-up tool and lemAgent, an AI assistant that helps you set up campaigns.

  • Email: $69 a month, or $55 billed yearly. 50,000 emails a month, unlimited users and email senders, email and phone finder, warm-up, CRM integrations and API access.
  • Multichannel: $109 a month, or $87 billed yearly. Unlimited emails and messages, LinkedIn automation, SMS, in-app calling, VoIP integrations and a WhatsApp add-on. The page lists 5 senders per user on this plan.
  • Enterprise: custom pricing, with SSO and SAML, custom permissions and a dedicated account manager.

Data add-ons cost extra: lead enrichment at $16 a month for 2,000 credits, and buying intent signals at $21 a month for 100 signals. lemlist integrates natively with HubSpot, Salesforce and Attio, and offers API and MCP access.

Choose it if your SDRs already work LinkedIn by hand and you want those touches inside the same sequence as email.

What does Smartlead offer?

Smartlead is built around sending at volume. It says you can "add unlimited mailboxes and store unlimited leads" and pay "only for what you send." Warm-up and sender rotation are automatic, and a master inbox pulls replies from "all campaigns and clients" into one shared view.

  • Base: $39 a month, or $32.50 billed yearly. 2,000 contacts, 6,000 sends a month, 2,000 verified prospect emails.
  • Pro: $94 a month, or $78.30 billed yearly. 30,000 contacts, 90,000 sends.
  • Smart: $174 a month, or $144.50 billed yearly. Unlimited contacts, 150,000 sends, CRM access.
  • Prime: $379 a month, or $314.60 billed yearly. 500,000 sends, 3 SmartServers, CRM and API access.

SmartServers are Smartlead's dedicated tenant infrastructure and IPs. It also offers SmartAgents, which it says can research leads, write emails and update your CRM, and integrations with HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive and Clay.

Choose it if you manage many domains and clients and want one inbox and one bill for all of them.

Which tool has the best deliverability features?

All three include warm-up and let you spread sending across many inboxes. The differences show up at the top end:

  • Instantly adds inbox placement testing and, on Lightspeed, private servers with IP rotation.
  • Smartlead handles DNS, warm-up and rotation automatically and puts dedicated SmartServers on Prime.
  • lemlist includes lemwarm and a deliverability hub on every plan.

No tool can fix a bad list or a weak offer, though. Google's sender guidelines say anyone sending more than 5,000 messages a day to Gmail accounts must set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC, support one-click unsubscribe on marketing messages, and keep spam rates "below 0.30%" in Postmaster Tools. Get those basics right before you compare warm-up networks.

What about Saleshandy and Apollo.io?

Saleshandy is a close alternative on price. Starter costs $41 a month, or $34 billed yearly, with unlimited email accounts, 2,000 active prospects and 6,000 emails a month. Pro costs $99 a month, or $76 yearly, for 30,000 prospects, 100,000 emails and up to 10 users. All plans list multichannel sequences (email, calls, LinkedIn and WhatsApp), warm-up and a B2B database. Trials run 7 days.

Apollo.io combines a contact database with sequencing, which suits teams that want one tool for both. Its pricing page lists Free, Basic, Professional and Custom plans and says credits are pooled across the team and expire at the end of each billing cycle. It did not show plan prices to our checks, so confirm them in a trial.

If you build lists in Clay first, any of the three senders above can take the output. See our Clay App of the Week review for how that workflow fits together.

How to choose a cold email tool

  1. Count your channels. Email only? Instantly, Smartlead and Saleshandy cost less. Email plus LinkedIn? Start with lemlist.
  2. Estimate real volume. Monthly sends and active contacts drive the price on every plan. Map your next six months, not your first week.
  3. Decide where leads come from. If you already pay for a database such as Apollo.io or Clay, you do not need bundled credits. If you do not, compare Instantly's credits, lemlist's database and Smartlead's included verified emails.
  4. Check the reply workflow. Who reads replies, and where do booked meetings land? Test the shared inbox and the CRM sync with your own CRM. Our guide to AI-powered CRM tools covers the receiving end.
  5. Run a two week pilot. Use a fresh domain, warm it up, and send to a small, verified list. Judge reply rate and inbox placement, not open rate.

Before you sign, run the vendor through our AI vendor security checklist, since these tools connect to your mailboxes and store prospect data. To see which sales tools are gaining attention right now, check this week's AI tool rankings.

Bottom line

For a founder or a small team sending email only, Smartlead Base or Instantly Growth is the cheapest way in. For SDR teams that prospect on LinkedIn as much as by email, lemlist's Multichannel plan is the better fit. For agencies and high volume senders, Smartlead's master inbox and SmartServers, or Instantly's Lightspeed plan, are built for the job. Whatever you choose, set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC first and keep lists small and verified.
