Fathom AI Notetaker

AI notetaker that records, transcribes and summarizes Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls.

Visit site

Fathom is an AI notetaker that records, transcribes and summarizes your Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls, and its free plan covers unlimited recordings and summaries. It is the easiest place for a sales or customer team to start, because you can test it on real calls for free and only pay once you want team search, CRM sync or coaching. If you want a notepad that follows your own notes instead of a recorder, look at Granola.

Key takeaways

  • Fathom says it "summarizes your meetings so you can focus on the conversation", across Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams.
  • The free plan includes unlimited recordings, transcriptions and instant AI call summaries, as of October 2026.
  • You can choose bot capture or bot-free capture. Bot-free is labelled beta on the pricing page.
  • Paid plans run from $15 to $25 per user per month billed annually. CRM field sync and coaching scorecards need Business.
  • An official MCP server lets you ask Claude or ChatGPT about your meetings. API keys and webhooks are included on all plans.

What is Fathom?

Fathom joins or captures your video calls, writes a transcript and turns it into a summary with next steps. Notes, insights and action items then sync to the tools your team already uses. The homepage names HubSpot, Salesforce, Slack, Notion, Asana and Gmail.

Founder Richard White built it as a tool for himself, after noticing that "the best moments rarely made it into notes or follow-ups", according to the company's about page. Fathom says it is "used at 500K+ companies" and that it saves users 38 minutes per meeting on average. Both are vendor claims, but they show how widely the free plan has spread.

Who is Fathom for?

Fathom fits teams that:

  • Run many external calls on Zoom, Meet or Teams and want a recap in minutes, not at the end of the day.
  • Want to start free and add paid seats later, instead of signing a sales platform contract on day one.
  • Live in HubSpot or Salesforce and want call notes and deal details written into the CRM.
  • Have managers who review calls and coach reps, but cannot justify an enterprise conversation intelligence tool.

It is a weaker fit if you mostly meet in person, or if you dislike any recording and prefer to write your own notes with AI help.

What are Fathom's standout features?

A free plan you can actually use

The free plan includes unlimited recordings and transcriptions, instant AI call summaries, and clips, playlists and search across your calls. Few tools in this category give that much away. Our guide to AI meeting assistants found it the most generous free plan of the six tools we compared.

Bot or no bot

Many people try an AI notetaker, then stop because a bot shows up in every client call. Fathom now lets you pick bot-free capture or a meeting bot, and the pricing page lists both options on the free plan. Bot-free is still marked beta, so test it on your setup first.

CRM sync for sales teams

The HubSpot integration "automatically syncs meeting summaries, action items, and deal insights directly into HubSpot." On Business, CRM field sync goes further and maps Fathom's insights into specific CRM fields. Business also adds Deal View summaries, coaching metrics and AI scorecards. Trackers flag moments such as competitor mentions and objections.

Your meetings inside Claude and ChatGPT

Fathom runs an official MCP server at https://api.fathom.ai/mcp. You can connect it through the Fathom connector in Claude, add it to Claude Code with one command, or use the Fathom app in ChatGPT. On Claude Team or Enterprise, an owner must turn the connector on first. Fathom's docs describe the result simply: you can "ask Claude about your meetings." For more tools like this, see the works with Claude collection and the MCP servers collection.

For developers, the docs say API keys and webhooks are "included on all plans", with TypeScript and Python SDKs. The API only reaches meetings you recorded or that were shared with you. Private calls stay visible only to their host.

How much does Fathom cost?

Prices below are from Fathom's pricing page, per user per month, as of October 2026.

Premium $16 $20 Advanced summaries with 15+ templates, AI action items, meeting assistant, custom bot

The pricing page lists a 90-day guarantee on paid plans. On security, Fathom's homepage lists SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, HIPAA compliance and SSO and SCIM. Check the AI vendor security checklist before rolling it out to a whole company.

What are Fathom's limitations?

  • Free has soft caps on AI extras. AI action items and account-wide Ask Fathom are marked "Limited use" on the free plan. The page does not give exact numbers.
  • The sales features sit high up. CRM field sync, deal views and scorecards start on Business, at $25 per user per month billed annually.
  • Team plans need two seats. Team and Business have a 2-user minimum.
  • Bot-free is in beta. If no bot is a hard rule for your clients, test it before you commit.
  • Video calls only. Fathom's site describes capture for Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls. If you need in-person meeting notes, check that use case with the vendor.

What are the best Fathom alternatives?

  • Granola: bot-free by design and built around your own notes. Free Basic keeps 30 days of history, and Business is $14 per user per month, as of October 2026. Read our Granola review.
  • Fireflies.ai: a broad notetaker with conversation intelligence on its higher plans.
  • Otter.ai: live transcription with a low paid entry point.
  • tl;dv: a recorder with a free plan, aimed at teams that meet in several languages.
  • Avoma: notes, scheduling and revenue intelligence in one tool for revenue teams.
  • Gong: enterprise conversation intelligence for large sales orgs with budget.

Verdict: should you use Fathom?

Fathom is the safest first AI notetaker for a B2B team. Start every rep on the free plan, check that summaries and the bot or bot-free capture work for your calls, then upgrade the people who need team search or CRM sync. Pay for Business only when managers will actually use scorecards and deal views. If your team rejects recording altogether, try Granola instead.
