The best Intercom Fin alternative for a small support team is usually the AI agent built into the helpdesk you already use. Zendesk, Freshdesk and Help Scout all include an AI agent with their own billing rules, Gorgias is the natural pick for Shopify stores, and Tidio covers very small sites. If you want to keep your helpdesk and only replace the agent, Aissist is the cheapest published per-resolution option in this guide.

This guide is for support leads and operators at teams of roughly 2 to 50 agents. For enterprise agents such as Sierra, Decagon and Ada, see our AI agents for customer support guide.

Key takeaways

  • Fin costs $0.99 per outcome (as of October 2026), works on most major helpdesks and has a 14-day trial with unlimited outcomes. It is a strong default, so switch for a clear reason.
  • Each vendor counts something different: Fin bills outcomes, Zendesk bills automated resolutions, Freshdesk bills sessions, Help Scout and Aissist bill resolutions. Compare cost per resolved conversation, not list price.
  • Help Scout AI Answers is $0.75 per resolution with a monthly spending cap and three free months.
  • Zendesk includes 5 to 10 automated resolutions per agent a month, then charges $1.50 to $2.00 each.
  • Aissist charges $0.20 to $0.60 per resolution and runs inside Intercom, Zendesk, Freshdesk, Front, Gorgias and others.

Why do teams look for Fin alternatives?

Fin is Intercom's AI agent. Intercom sells it two ways: with the Intercom helpdesk, from $0.99 per outcome plus $19 per helpdesk seat a month, or standalone on another helpdesk with no seat fees and a minimum of 50 outcomes a month. Intercom lists integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks, Front, Zoho, Gorgias, Zendesk and others, and says setup takes under an hour.

Small teams still shop around for three reasons:

  1. Unit cost at volume. At $0.99 per outcome, a team that resolves 2,000 conversations a month with AI pays about $1,980 for Fin alone. Some alternatives publish lower rates.
  2. Billing surprises. Fin bills one outcome per conversation, and that includes Procedure handoffs, disqualifications and self-serve routings at $0.99, and qualifications at $9.99. Teams that use Fin for lead qualification need to model that.
  3. One vendor instead of two. If you run Zendesk, Freshdesk or Help Scout, the built-in agent shares the same knowledge base, reporting and contract.

If none of these apply, Fin is a reasonable choice. You can see the full list of similar tools on our Fin alternatives page.

Zendesk AI agents: for teams already on Zendesk

Zendesk says AI agents are included in every Suite and Support plan. They answer across messaging, email and voice in 80 languages, take actions in connected systems and ground answers in your knowledge sources. Support Team starts at $19 per agent a month billed annually ($25 monthly), Suite Team at $55 and Suite Professional at $115.

The billing detail that matters: each plan includes automated resolutions, 5 per agent a month on Support Team and Suite Team, and 10 on Suite Professional. Extra resolutions cost $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay as you go. Zendesk's AI agents page also says resolutions are priced by the value each delivers, in tiers it does not define on that page, so ask for the current terms in writing. A 5-agent team gets 25 resolutions included, which most teams will pass quickly. The Copilot add-on for human agents is $50 per agent a month, paid yearly.

Freddy AI Agent: for teams on Freshdesk

Freshdesk starts at $19 per agent a month on Growth, $55 on Pro and $89 on Enterprise, billed annually. Every plan includes the first 500 Freddy AI Agent sessions, and extra sessions cost $49 per 100, about $0.49 each.

That looks cheap, but a session is not a resolution. You pay for conversations the AI agent handles even when it hands off to a person. Track your handoff rate during the 14-day trial: if half of all sessions escalate, your real cost per resolution is about double the session price. Freddy AI Copilot is $29 per agent a month on Pro and Enterprise.

Help Scout AI Answers: the simple choice for small B2B teams

Help Scout lists Standard at $25 per user a month, Plus at $45 and Pro at $75, with a 16% discount for annual billing, plus a free plan for 5 users and 100 contacts a month. AI Answers is an add-on on paid plans at $0.75 per resolution.

Help Scout's definition of a resolution is strict in the buyer's favour: it only counts when the customer gets an AI answer and does not escalate, search the knowledge base, ask more questions or ask for more help. You can set a monthly spending cap, and new accounts get three months of free, unlimited resolutions. For a SaaS team with a good help center, this is the easiest switch to model.

Gorgias AI Agent: for ecommerce stores

Gorgias is a helpdesk built for ecommerce. Its AI Agent is described as one that "sells, supports, and engages customers", with product education and recommendations alongside support, and it works with Shopify and BigCommerce. The helpdesk is priced by ticket volume, from 50 to 5,000 tickets a month, never per agent. Gorgias says AI Agent is included on every plan and you pay only when it resolves a conversation, but the per-resolution rate is not shown in the pricing page text, so get a quote before you compare it with Fin.

Tidio Lyro: for very small sites

Tidio is live chat with the Lyro AI agent. The Free plan includes 50 billable conversations and 50 lifetime Lyro conversations. Starter is $24.17 a month, and Lyro on its own starts at $32.50 a month for 50 Lyro conversations. There is a 7-day trial on Starter, Growth and Lyro with no credit card. It suits a small shop or SaaS site with modest chat volume. Above a few hundred AI conversations a month, ask for a quote, since higher Lyro tiers are not listed.

Aissist: replace the agent, keep the helpdesk

Aissist runs inside the helpdesk you already have. It lists Intercom, Zendesk, Freshdesk, Kustomer, Front, Gorgias, Salesforce and HubSpot as integrations. Pricing is $0.09 per AI interaction, capped at $0.60 per resolution, and you pay the lower of the two. Aissist says email costs the least, about $0.20 per ticket, and chat the most, at $0.60. Handoffs to humans are not charged, and there is a free tier of up to 1,000 tickets a month on a basic engine for FAQs and simple procedures.

The trade-off is a smaller vendor than Intercom. Run it side by side with your current agent on one queue before you move everything.

What would 1,000 AI resolutions a month cost?

A rough illustration from list prices, for a 5-agent team, before any discounts:

  • Aissist: $200 (all email) to $600 (all chat).
  • Help Scout AI Answers: $750, on top of Help Scout seats.
  • Fin: $990 standalone, plus $19 per helpdesk seat if you use the Intercom helpdesk.
  • Zendesk: 25 included, then 975 at $1.50 committed is $1,462.50, or $1,950 pay as you go, on top of seats.
  • Freshdesk: 500 sessions included. If every session resolved, 500 more would cost $245; with a 50% handoff rate you would need about 2,000 sessions, or $735.

Resolution rate changes the picture more than unit price. An agent that resolves 60% of conversations at $0.99 can cost less per ticket closed than one that resolves 30% at $0.60, once you count the human time on the rest.

How should you choose?

  1. Start from your helpdesk. If you are happy with Zendesk, Freshdesk, Help Scout or Gorgias, trial their built-in agent first. Switching helpdesk to save on AI rarely pays off.
  2. Pull last quarter's ticket mix. Count how many tickets were simple questions your help center already answers. That is the realistic ceiling for any agent.
  3. Run a two-week pilot on one channel. Track resolution rate, CSAT, reopen rate and cost per resolved ticket. The first AI agent playbook has a six-week pilot plan you can adapt.
  4. Read the billing definition. Ask each vendor what counts as billable, how handoffs are treated and whether there is a monthly cap.
  5. Check the data terms. Our AI vendor security checklist lists the questions, and the free AI tool vendor evaluation scorecard helps you compare answers side by side.

Larger teams with complex, multi-step workflows should also look at Sierra, Decagon and Ada, which sell through sales calls rather than public price lists.

Bottom line

Fin remains a good default: it works on most helpdesks and its trial lets you measure real outcomes. The strongest alternatives are Help Scout AI Answers for small B2B teams that want a strict resolution definition and a spending cap, Zendesk or Freshdesk if you already run them, Gorgias for Shopify stores, and Aissist if you want the lowest published per-resolution price without changing helpdesk.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Intercom Fin alternative for a small support team?+

If you already run a helpdesk, start with the AI agent built into it: Zendesk AI agents, Freddy AI Agent in Freshdesk or AI Answers in Help Scout. Gorgias fits Shopify stores, Tidio's Lyro fits very small sites, and Aissist suits teams that want a low per-resolution price on top of the helpdesk they already use.

How much does Intercom Fin cost?+

Fin costs $0.99 per outcome as of October 2026. On a non-Intercom helpdesk there is a minimum of 50 outcomes a month, and qualification outcomes cost $9.99. On the Intercom helpdesk you also pay from $19 per helpdesk seat a month.

Which AI support agent is cheapest per resolution?+

Of the tools in this guide that publish a rate, Aissist is lowest at $0.20 to $0.60 per resolution depending on channel. Help Scout AI Answers is $0.75, Fin is $0.99, and extra Zendesk automated resolutions are $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay as you go. Freshdesk bills Freddy AI Agent per session, not per resolution.

Do I have to switch helpdesk to replace Fin?+

No. Fin and Aissist both run on top of other helpdesks. Zendesk, Freshdesk, Help Scout, Gorgias and Tidio sell their AI agents with their own helpdesk or chat product, so switching to one of those usually means moving your ticketing too.

Can I trial these AI agents for free?+

Yes. Fin has a 14-day trial with unlimited outcomes, Zendesk and Freshdesk offer 14 days, Help Scout gives three months of free AI Answers resolutions on new accounts, Tidio has a 7-day trial and Aissist has a free tier of up to 1,000 tickets a month.
